We started by reading report cards.
Not specifications: report cards. Those of a nursery where the grade is a smiley, of a primary school where each competence carries four assessments on different scales, of an anglophone college where the trimester is called a term, of a higher institute where a course's weight is its number of credits. They dictated the data model.
The software we found printed at the foot of those documents each handles one segment. None covers nursery by pictograms, primary with variable scales, secondary in both sub-systems and LMD university at once. That is the gap SuGes fills.
What we hold to be true
The document is what counts
A report card is an administrative record: signed, stamped, handed to a parent and sometimes required by the administration. Its layout is a regulatory constraint, not an aesthetic choice. We start from the real document and work back to the software — never the other way round.
Adding a system is configuration
Seven assessment systems fit in one engine. The eighth will not call for development: marking scales, grading scales, periods and documents are data. That is what lets us say yes to a school whose report card resembles no other.
A wrong figure is worth less than no figure
Every formula is checked by an independent counter-computation, written outside the engine, against a real report card. When a document cannot be produced correctly, SuGes says so and refuses to print rather than emit a plausible page.
Your data is yours
Each school works in an isolated space, and no query crosses that boundary. If you leave, a full export is handed over free of charge and with no conditions.
The field decides
Slow connections, Android phones, power cuts: these are the real conditions, not edge cases. Work in progress must never be lost, and a screen must hold up under a thumb as well as under a keyboard.
