Choosing school management software: 10 criteria
Published on 6 October 2026 · SuGes
School management software is used every day, by the whole team, for years. Here are the questions to ask before choosing — whatever the solution.
- The real price: per pupil or per school? Are all modules included, or sold separately?
- Your documents: does the software print YOUR report cards, transcripts and diplomas, with your letterhead and assessment system?
- Calculations: are averages, coefficients, rankings, sequences and terms (or LMD credits) applied as in your regulations?
- Internet: what happens when the connection drops? Is there a version that works offline?
- Phones: can teachers enter marks from a phone, on a slow connection?
- Families: do they have a space to follow marks, attendance and payments?
- Security: is each school isolated from the others? Are rights limited by role? Are actions logged?
- Backups: where is the data, and how is it recovered if something goes wrong?
- Languages: does the software work in English and French, with both sub-systems if you are bilingual?
- Support: who answers, when and how? Can you try it free before paying?
Ask for a demonstration on YOUR data (one class, a real report card): it is the surest way to see whether software adapts to your school, or the other way round.
